How ME Law collects, uses, shares and protects personal information on melawlawyers.com and in providing legal services.

Last updated: September 2026

ME Law Professional Corporation ("ME Law", "we", "us") is a litigation law firm acting for clients around the world. This policy explains how we collect, use, disclose and protect personal information when you use melawlawyers.com or contact us, and when we provide legal services. We handle personal information in accordance with the privacy laws that apply to us and with our professional duty of confidentiality as lawyers.

Information we collect

When you request a consultation. The consultation form asks for your name, organization, email address and phone number, the type of matter, how urgent it is, where the other party and any assets are located, a short description of the matter, and your consent to be contacted. Please do not include confidential or privileged details until we have confirmed that we can act for you (see Confidentiality and privilege below).

How you found us. With the form, we receive the page you submitted it from, the first page of your visit, the website that referred you and any campaign tags in the link you followed. Your browser keeps this for the current visit only and sends it to us only if you submit the form. We use it to understand which pages and channels bring enquiries.

When you email or call us. We receive the information you choose to send or tell us.

When you browse the site. Our hosting records technical information such as your IP address, browser type, the pages requested and the time of each request, which we use to operate and secure the site. Where analytics is enabled, Google Analytics (through Google Tag Manager) uses cookies or similar technologies to collect information about how the site is used, such as the pages viewed, device and browser type, approximate location and referring website. We do not use advertising cookies: advertising storage and ad personalisation are switched off by default.

When you become a client. Information about your matter and the people involved in it, information we gather from others in the course of the matter, your contact details, and billing and payment information.

How we use it

  • To respond to your enquiry, check for conflicts of interest and decide whether we can help.
  • To arrange a consultation and, if you retain us, to provide legal services, including gathering evidence and communicating with others on your behalf.
  • To invoice and collect payment.
  • To keep the records we are required to keep and to meet our legal and professional obligations.
  • To understand, in aggregate, how the site is used, and to improve it.
  • To protect the site and our systems against misuse.

With your consent, we may also send you legal updates or invitations to events; you can unsubscribe at any time. We do not sell personal information.

Consent

We collect, use and disclose personal information with your consent, except where the law permits or requires otherwise. By submitting the consultation form or contacting us, you consent to our using your information for the purposes above. You may withdraw your consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions; if you do, we may not be able to act for you.

Who we share it with

We share personal information only as needed for these purposes:

  • Service providers that help us run the firm and this site — website hosting and databases, email delivery, analytics, IT support, file storage, bookkeeping and accounting — which must protect it and use it only to provide their services to us.
  • People involved in your matter, on your instructions — for example opposing counsel, courts and tribunals, experts, agents and other lawyers.
  • Regulators and authorities where the law requires it, including the law societies that license our lawyers, in the course of audits and investigations.
  • A prospective purchaser or successor of all or part of the practice, which must first agree in writing to keep the information confidential.

Where information is stored

Some of our service providers store or process information in other countries, for example in the United States or the European Union. Information held in another country is subject to its laws and may be accessible to its courts and authorities.

How long we keep it

We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes for which it was collected and to meet our legal and professional obligations:

  • consultation requests that do not lead to a retainer are kept for as long as we need to respond and to meet our professional obligations, and are then deleted; the names needed for conflict checks may be kept in our conflict records;
  • client files are kept for at least six years after the matter ends; and
  • general correspondence is kept for about two years.

Paper records are shredded and electronic records are deleted when they are no longer needed.

Security

We protect personal information with safeguards appropriate to its sensitivity, including encrypted connections to this site, access limited to the people who need it, and confidentiality obligations for our staff and service providers. No method of transmitting or storing information over the internet is completely secure.

Confidentiality and privilege

Our duty of confidentiality and solicitor–client privilege apply once we act for you. Information you send before we have confirmed, after a conflict check, that we can act may not be treated as confidential, and sending it does not prevent us from acting for another party. We cannot guarantee the confidentiality of email, website forms or voicemail.

Access and correction

You may ask to see the personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct it. Please write to our Privacy Officer (below). We will respond within 30 days, may need to verify your identity, and will tell you in advance if a minimal fee applies. We may withhold information that is protected by solicitor–client privilege or that would reveal personal information about someone else. When we correct information, we will tell anyone to whom we disclosed it where appropriate; if we do not agree to a correction, we will note your request on the file.

Questions and complaints

Please contact our Privacy Officer at ME Law Professional Corporation:

We will acknowledge a written complaint, investigate it, and give you our decision and reasons within 30 days. If you are not satisfied, we will tell you which privacy regulator you can contact about our handling of your information.
